Learn about the use of the Native American Medicine Wheel

Speaker: Lorri Darbes

Lorri’s ethnic heritage includes Lakota Sioux, Greek, and even some Viking lineage among others, but it was not until she retired from a career of over 25 years serving as an instructor with the US Army that her interest in Native American studies began to surface. In 1991, after her return home from serving in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm, she felt the pull towards her Native American heritage, and decided to respond to the ancestral “call to the drum”, beginning her quest of learning to walk the medicine path.

A woman of many skills, she is a Reiki Master Teacher and Healer that specializes in Shamanic Reiki, sound healing, and crystal healing. She is also a self-taught musician of the Native American flute, and in 2006 published her first CD entitled “Transcendence”. In addition, she is a writer, and is currently actively working to conclude her studies to obtain her Masters of Art degree in Creative Writing.

She will be presenting a program for Parastudy on the Native American Medicine Wheel including discussion of the 4 directions and the meaning of the Medicine Wheel in Native teachings. She will also be playing her flute to assist in centering and sound healing. Beginning in February, Lorri will lead a monthly drumming circle class.
